With a long track record in tutoring, supervising, and lecturing, I am a passionate teacher. Transferring knowledge to a new generation while learning from their fresh perspectives energises me tremendously.
Courses
At Utrecht University, I mainly teach in the Information Sciences programme, where I innovated the Information Exchange (web development and information visualisation) and Usability Engineering and User Experience (research methods for UX) courses. I sometimes give guest lectures at several institutions too. Let me know if you'd like to invite me!
Teaching tools
My teaching informed ongoing research projects with practical tools for blended learning (BlendEd) and thesis assessment (UpGrade). Given my nerdy fondness for LaTeX, I also created the LaCheX tool to improve typesetting based on my personal experience and common rules of thumb.
Supervision
I love supervising BSc and MSc students firsthand and stimulate them to publish excellent work. Through co-supervision, I also collaborate with experts worldwide. I am currently supervising a doctoral researcher for the first time, Marie-Sophie Simon, who works on human-centred explainability in education.
Teaching awards
I am grateful and proud that my teaching efforts have been recognised by students and colleagues. I received 2 awards for best informatics assistant at KU Leuven and won the university-wide Teacher Talent award at Utrecht University.
